The Worcestershire Masonic Golfing Society (WMGS), held it final match of the 2015 season entertaining Oxfordshire at ,The Vale Golf & Country Club, near Evesham on, Tuesday 15th September. This was the inaugural match with Oxfordshire. It came about through a visitation by W. Bro. Phil Lavis and Bro. Andy Wilkinson, of the Abbot Lichfield Lodge, No. 3308 to a Lodge in Gloucestershire and a chance meeting with Brethren from Oxfordshire Provincial Golfing Society.
The 5 – 0 victory was led by the WMGS Captain W. Bro Andy Hill, Halesowen Lodge, No. 5635, ably partnered by W. Bro. George Mitchell, Quarry Lodge, No. 7543, who won the opening game.
The WMGS has had mixed fortunes in 2015 with defeats to Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire and victories with Herefordshire, Shropshire and Oxfordshire. The six competitive inter-Province Matches are supplemented with our Society Annual 'Stapleford' Competition, in July each year, which is held in July at, Kings Norton Golf Club.
The chosen charity for 2015 is the MIDLAND AIR AMBULANCE and the donation being made, which is expected to be in excess of £1,300, will be announced in November.
If you would wish to enjoy friendly competitive golf with golfers of 'like minds', at some of the finest courses in the Midlands, then contact the Secretary today for an application form.
You do not have be a ‘low handicapper’ to play for WMGS; we have several ‘high handicappers’ turning out for Team on a regular basis. The Team size depends on the opposition – the members of Golf Society not selected in the team, play a ‘friendly’ two or three or foursome, on the same course, immediately following the last foursome in the Match.
Every member is guaranteed to play for Society during the course of the season; the Secretary, Paul Battle, sees to that.
Every Golf Match is followed by two course meal, included in the Match fee; it is a great opportunity of making new friends and sharing ideas with other Masons in other Provinces.
The life subscription to the Society is only £18 and includes your WMGS tie. Alternatively you may join on line on the WMGS website: www.wmgs.fmweb.org.uk.
Brief details of the Society may be found in the Provincial Masonic Year Book – indexed in the 'General Section' following the section on 'Masonic Charities'.
